The Royal College of General Practitioners – Lyme Spotlight Project

This RCGP spotlight project focuses on raising the profile of Lyme disease in general practice and thereby increase awareness and improve patient outcomes. It was launched in May 2018 and will support primary care clinicians in developing clinical skills and expertise aimed at improving early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of the condition.  Included will be GP workshops and the development of an easily accessible on-line toolkit. INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION OF DISEASES (ICD) UPDATED FOR LYME DISEASE.

Although most Lyme Disease Guidelines including NICE failed to recognise Dementia caused by Lyme Disease the World Health Organisation and United Nations do. The ICD codes were recently revised and the ICD11 Report was formally adopted in June 2018 by the United Nations and its implementation will begin in 2019. Lyme disease NICE guideline. April 2018

A step in the right direction, but more work needs to be done to recognize the true extent that patients with lingering symptoms and other associated chronic tick-borne infections are treated and monitored. A specialist clinic for this purpose is what we at Vis-a-Vis Symposiums are working towards.  Education is the key, and we will not rest until all patients are treated with equal importance, whether they are newly infected or have been ill for many years.
